Day 10:

This day we spent in a neaby Panare village. In contrast to to the Piaroa the Panare dress very traditional. That means me wearing traditional loin clothes and a (in the most case) a t-shirt and the women wearing skirts and chains of white perls. The Panare didn't allow us to take any fotos so we couldn't document their beauty.

The shaman in this village had been on a visit to a other shamans living far away in the mountains. We had sent him several messages that he should be back on this day but he didn't appeared. So we couldn't experience the shamanic traditions of the Panare.

Day 11:

The last village we visited was Nichare which is settled by the Yekuana. The Yekuana make really impressing baskets and ritual weapons which tell their mythology. Our investigation about shamanism brought us to a clear definition understanding a shaman's activities.

We asked if there was a shaman in Nichare and the answer was an absolute no. There was no time to be disappointed because in the next sentence they told us about having a spiritual healer who could stop bleedings but -in contrast to a shaman- he isn't able to travel to other worlds nor does he use drugs in his ceremonies.

Another interesting part of a shamans work we could find out about: as the daughter of the captain (so is the chief of the village called) was pregnant with her first child she consulted a shaman. Asking about the gender the shaman diagnosed that the baby will male. The young woman wanting nothing more than a girl she asked the shaman to change the sex. The shaman made the ceremony. A few month later the young women gave birth to a healthy girl.

Day 12:

We went back to Caracas where we spent another day before our flight back home to germany.
